Reading an Amana model number
Amana model numbers look cryptic, but once you can read the prefix you can identify the appliance, its configuration and the parts a repair will need. The leading letter A marks the Amana brand; the next letters name the family — ART, ABB and ASI for refrigerators, ACR, AER and AGR for ranges, AWO for wall ovens, AZF, AZC and AQC for freezers, ADB for dishwashers — while laundry uses the Whirlpool-family N prefix (NTW, NFW washers; NED, NGD dryers). A finish suffix such as W (white), B (black), S (stainless) or M (monochromatic stainless) usually closes the string. Browse the families from the appliances overview or jump into the model library.
Refrigeration and cooking families
Refrigerators read by configuration: top-freezer ART (ART308FFDW, ART318FFDS, ART104TFDW), bottom-freezer ABB (ABB1924BRM, ABB2224BRW) and side-by-side ASI (ASI2575GRS, ASI2175GRS), with older French-door builds supported as legacy lookups. Ranges read by fuel: coil-electric ACR (ACR4303MFS), smoothtop AER (AER6303MFS, AER6603SFS) and gas AGR (AGR6303MMS, AGR4230BAW). Wall ovens are the single electric AWO6313 (30″) and AWO6317 (27″). Freezers are a tiny line — the upright AZF33X16DW and chest AZC5216LW and AQC0902LW.
Specialty families
Two families are best read with a caveat. Trash compactors are discontinued: the SMC-1, SMCD-2 and ESMC-2-A are legacy electromechanical units kept here purely as repair-lookup references — Amana sells no current compactor. Wine coolers carry AMAW model numbers (AMAW25S2MS, AMAW16S2MS, AMAW35S2CW), but these are single-zone units made under license by Galanz rather than a Whirlpool-Amana product, so parts and service are handled accordingly.
Laundry and dishwashing families
Dishwashers read by the ADB prefix — ADB1400AGS, ADB1400AMW and ADB1500ADS — with older ADB families supported as parts-index lookups. Washers read by the N prefix: top-load NTW4519JW and NTW4516FW, and front-load NFW5800HW. Dryers read NED for electric (NED4655EW, NED5800HW) and NGD for gas (NGD4655EW, NGD5800HW); a trailing parts-revision digit such as NED4655EW1 is not a separate retail model.
Decoding and servicing your model
The rating plate carries the full model string and is usually inside the refrigerator on a side wall, on the oven door frame or behind a range storage drawer, inside a dishwasher tub edge, or on the back of a laundry machine; record the complete string before you book so the correct genuine OEM part is matched the first time. If your appliance is showing a fault, start with the error-code library, then match the family above. Our experienced, independent technicians service every Amana family regardless of age, and specifications can be confirmed at amana.com. When you have your model in hand, book a repair — pricing starts from $129, with the final cost depending on the parts and configuration, and our labor is guaranteed.
